Interdisciplinary Lecture Series



The Faculty of Education is pleased to host its 4th annual Interdisciplinary Lecture Series. The series aims to provide a forum where educators and researchers across the WLU campuses and connected communities can learn from research being conducted in educational contexts from a variety of perspectives. This year, our speakers will examine educational topics as researched from the perspectives of post-colonialism, psychology, linguistics, and kinesiology.

Listed below are the lectures planned for the 2011-2012 series:

Dr. Yvonne Shorter Brown, retired public school teacher, university lecturer, and researcher: Readings from Brown's autobiography and memoir "Dead Woman Pickney: A memoir of childhood in Jamaica." Monday, October 31, 2011, 4:00-5:00 p.m. WLU Senate and Board Chambers.

Drs. Mark Pancer & Geoff Nelson, Wilfrid Laurier Univeristy: Better Beginnings, Better Futures: The Impact of a Universal, Comprehensive, Community-Based Approach on Children's School Performance and General Well-Being. Thursday, November 17, 2011, 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Bricker Academic, rm. 308.

Christine Kampen Robinson, Ph.D. candidate, University of Waterloo: Multilingual classrooms: An examination of code mixing in the foreign language classroom. Friday, January 20, 2012, 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Bricker Academic, rm. 308.

Dr. Tobias Krettenauer, Wilfrid Laurier University: The development of moral emotions in elementary school children and its relation to children's moral self-concept. Friday, February 17, 2012, 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Bricker Academic, rm. 308.

Meagan Dargave, MA candidate, Wilfrid Laurier University: Exploring the Impact of High School Physical Education on Physical Activity in Emerging Adults. Thursday, March 1, 2012, 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Bricker Academic, rm. 308.
