The Study Skills & S.I. Centre (SSC) enhances student academic life through the promotion of proper learning strategies and study skills that are required by all undergraduate and graduate students to succeed academically. The SSC delivers its programming through both traditional means, workshops and individual consultations, and innovative means such as department academic mentoring and course integration ("S.I."). Integrated-solutions have the benefit of allowing students to apply learning strategies and study skills to specific course content. Benefits to students include learning transferable skill sets, decreased dependency on authority figures, better content engagement, and higher grades. Benefits to Laurier include lower attrition rates and higher graduation rates. Topics covered by the SSC include time management; listening and note taking, reading, and studying skills; group work strategies researching and critical thinking strategies; and exam preparation strategies.
