Vishaal Baulkaran, PhD '11
Dr. Vishaal Baulkaran joined the University of Lethbridge as an Assistant
Professor of Finance in 2011. Dr. Baulkaran’s dissertation was accepted in
December, 2010 and he received his PhD at the June 2011 convocation. He
holds an MBA and a BBA majoring in Finance from the University of New
Brunswick. Also, he has completed all three levels of the Chartered Financial
Analyst exams.
Dr. Baulkaran’s research focuses on executive compensation, ownership
structure, dividend policy, managerial entrenchment, earnings announcements,
market dynamics and other areas of corporate governance and corporate
finance. He has published his research in the Journal of Corporate Finance, as
well as having presented his research at numerous finance conferences including those of the Financial
Management Association, Financial Management Association Europe, Northern Finance Association, Eastern
Finance Association and Midwest Finance Association. He acts as a reviewer for several academic journals.
He was awarded the Wilfrid Laurier University Gold Medal for Academic Excellence and the E.D. Maher
Graduate Student Prize for the graduating MBA student with the highest CGPA (4.1 out of 4.3) at the
University of New Brunswick.
