Technology in Teaching
Nipissing University has implemented a technology initiative (iTeach) within its Schulich School of Education. Under this initiative all students entering Year 3 and 4 of the Concurrent Education program in 2010/2011 will participate in the iTeach Bridging Program. Students entering year 1 and 2 in the Concurrent program will participate in the iTeach Program in their senior years of the program. The program is intended to enrich the already strong educational experience in preparing teachers of tomorrow for the teaching environment of the future.
Teaching and learning have both been found to be significantly enhanced through the integration of Information Technology (IT). Teachers and students in schools and in universities have responded by utilizing IT in increasingly greater numbers and with wider applications. Through the iTeach program, BA/BEd students will learn to use IT-based teaching and learning tools with truly remarkable flexibility, power, and direct relevance to life-long learning. With on-the-spot access to teaching materials and information sources on the Internet, BA/BEd students, whether in class or at their practice teaching sites, develop expertise with the IT tools that help them become leaders in 21st century education.
