The William Ross Macdonald Legacy Council

William Ross Macdonald, former Chancellor of the university, was the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario who gave the Royal Assent to Bill 178, the bill that changed Waterloo Lutheran University to Wilfrid Laurier University on November 1, 1973. This symbolic act meant that Laurier became a provincially assisted university and could plan and dream for the future. The William Ross Macdonald Society recognizes those individuals who have made similar symbolic but very real acts of support for the future of Wilfrid Laurier University through bequests or gifts of life insurance. Such planning benefits successive generations of students and helps ensure the university's standard of excellence.
