It might sound trite, but Sharon Amon and Jessica Cote really want you to know how grateful they feel toward each and every staff and faculty member who donates back to our university.
“To every Laurier staff and faculty member who supports the university with generous donations year after year, I want to express a huge thank you,” says Sharon, a fourth-year psychology student at Laurier’s Waterloo campus. “I come from a large, low-income family, so every donation that I have received in my four years at Laurier has saved me in my times of great financial need.”
Jessica a fourth-year concurrent education student at our Brantford campus agrees and explains that extra funding, made available thanks to the generous Laurier donor community, has made all the difference to her.
“Your generosity has allowed me to drop an extra work shift every other week, which means I have been able to set aside more time for school work and decrease my stress and improve my mental health.”
Each year, staff and faculty at Laurier are asked to invest in our students through a philanthropic gift to Laurier, made through the annual Community Campaign fundraising initiative.
“There have been times, during my years at Laurier, when I wasn’t sure how I was going to make it, financially,” says Sharon. “It has been thanks to awards and bursaries that I will be graduating next year. Your donations to Laurier are an investment in students, like me.”
Last year, 18 percent of faculty and staff supported students like Sharon and Jessica through the Community Campaign. The focus of this year’s campaign is to inspire more faculty and staff participate.
Donations at all levels have an incredible impact and your gift can be directed toward supporting specific programs and initiatives. Simply being a donor sends a strong message of how supportive the Laurier community is of its students.
