Program Information & Requirements

The Honours Journalism BA Program and Minor, and JN courses are only available at the Brantford Campus.

The Honours BA Journalism program at Laurier Brantford is designed for students who seek employment as journalists in mass media, or who wish to pursue journalism as general education, and for those who wish to use studies in journalism as a preparation for other careers (in public relations, writing, web management, etc.) and/or education. Journalism at Laurier, which is also combined with contemporary studies, will emphasize its natural ties to a liberal arts education.

All students must complete the required Skills and Lecture courses, and one of the following areas of secondary concentration:

  • Print Journalism
  • Broadcast Journalism
  • Public Relations
  • Emerging Journalism and New Media

In Year 3, students in the Broadcast Journalism, Public Relations, and Emerging Journalism and New Media concentrations apply to Conestoga College and enroll in their respective one-year graduate certificate program. They are: Videography-Broadcast Journalism/Documentary; Integrated Marketing Communications; or New Media: Convergence. These programs are offered by Conestoga College in Kitchener.

Entry into Conestoga College’s program is competitive and will be governed by the application processes, deadlines and enrolment targets and limits set internally by Conestoga College. Students who take Year 3 at Conestoga return to Laurier for Year 4 of their BA. Upon graduation they hold a graduate college certificate and an Honours BA. A Letter of Permission is also required prior to attending Conestoga College.
