Laurier YMCA Lane Closure Notice

The right lane on Colborne Street will be closed between March 9, 2015 to March 31, 2015 to accommodate for the installation of shoring piles for the foundation of the building.  The left lane on Colborne Street will remain open until further notice.

Odeon Building - Elevator

The elevator in the Odeon Building, 50 Market Street, Brantford will be out of service on Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 9:00 to 2:00 in order to complete regulatory service work.  For alternate access, please take the stairs.  For accessibility issues please contact Special Constables at 519-756-8228 ext 5762 or 5888.  If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact Physical Resources at ext 5761.

Laurier YMCA Sewer Construction – Road Closure Update

This is a follow up notice to the road closure update for Monday, January 12, 2015 – there are delays to construction that will push back the road closure on Colborne Street (between Queen Street and Bain Street).  In the meantime Colborne Street will remain OPEN until further notice.  We will provide an update as soon as we are able to.

Laurier YMCA Sewer Construction - Road Closer

We wish to inform you that there will be sewer line relocation upgrades on Colborne Street.  The project is scheduled to start on Colborne Street on the week of January 12, 2015, pending City approvals, and last for approximately six weeks.  During construction, the road will be closed from Queen Street to Bain Street.  The sidewalk on the north side of Colborne Street will remain open.  Colborne Street from Market Street to Bain Street will be open for deliveries only.  Appropriate directional signage will be placed to indicate this.

Also, please note that effective January 12, 2015:

  • The sidewalk and street parking on the south side of Colborne Street will be closed until the completion of the facility.
  • The pedestrian bridge at Mill Street to the parkade will be closed until the completion of the facility.  The doors at the top of the bridge will be locked and the elevator will not go to the top floor.

Across campus - Backflow Prevention Testing (water shut off)

On December 22 and 23 backflow prevention testing will take place across campus.  Most buildings will have the water shut off for approximately 1 hour while testing is completed.  We are unable to provide a schedule as to when each building will be tested.

GRH - Water Shut-Off

On Wednesday, November 19, 2014 the water will be shut-off at Grand River Hall, 171 Colborne Street, Brantford from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. for the contractor to do the final water connection on Water Street.

GRH - Water Shut-Off 

Further to the message posted on Monday, October 27, 2014 - the water shut-off notice has now been extended to Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

As a result of the water shut-off, residence bathrooms and public washrooms will not be available during this time.  Please plan around these outages and complete any tasks that would require the use of water either before or after the time noted above.  For the use of public washrooms, please use the facilities in 97 Dalhousie Street or 38 Market Street (SC Johnson Building).


In addition, the fire suppression system in not operational during this time.  Laurier Brantford staff and an outside contractor are taking every precaution to ensure the safe operation of the building and related fire and life safety systems.

GRH - Water Shut-Off

As part of the sewer work being completed on Water Street, the contractor requires the water to be shut off at Grand River Hall, 171 Colborne Street, Brantford on Monday October 27, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday October 28, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

As a results of the water shut-off, residence washrooms and public bathrooms will not be available during this time.  Please plan around these outages and complete any tasks that would require the use of water either before or after the time noted above.  For the use of public washrooms, please use the facilities in 97 Dalhousie Street or 38 Market Street (SC Johnson Building).

October and November 2014
Laurier YMCA Sewer Construction – Updated Road Closure

The sewer line replacement on Water Street is underway and is proceeding well.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, there has been a change in the Colborne Street closure.  The road closure of Colborne Street between Queen Street to Market Street has been revised to begin on Monday October 20, 2014 and will last 7 to 8 weeks.  The closure will be extended from King Street to Market Street at a later date.  A notice update for this closure will be issued to inform residents and businesses.  During this time, Colborne Street from Bain Street to Market Street will be closed except for deliveries and pick-ups.
