Meet the Staff



Meet the fantastic staff of BrainWorx! Lead by Dr. Pamela Bryden, the individuals working with your children are highly qualified and very enthusiastic. Read more about them below!

Valentin Angardi, Undergraduate Student

Valentin will have her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology: Research Specialist Program as of June 2013. For the summer she is working with Dr. Woods' lab, while continuing her education at St. Jerome's University, uWaterloo, for Sexuality, Marriage and Family Studies. This is Valentin's second summer with Brainworx.

Carmen Baker, Undergraduate Student

Carmen is a fourth year student in the department of Kinesiology who will graduate this spring. This is her second year with Brainworx. She has over 10 years of camp experience and has been a counsellor for a variety of age groups for the past 5 years. She loves playing all sports and is excited to share her passion this summer.

Brittany Baxter, Graduate Student

Brittany is currently an MSc candidate, in Kinesiology. She is pursuing her research interests in the effects of concussion in regards to visumotor integration with Dr. Mike Cinelli. This will be her second summer at Brainworx and she is excited to be back.

Alysha Butler, Graduate Student 

Alysha is currently a second year MSc candidate at Wilfrid Laurier University working with her supervisor Dr. Pamela Bryden. Her interests in research include laterality, writing and drawing directionality, bimanual co-ordination and bilateral transfer of skills. Alysha's previous work with children includes working for several years as a supervisor at Airzone, a place that specializes in child's birthday parties. She has also worked at Brainworx last year as a counsellor and an experimenter.

Paula Ghelman, Undergraduate Student

Paula in currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in Honours Psychology. She has been working in Dr. Kim Roberts' Child Memory Lab as a Research Assistant since summer 2012 and this will be her second year as a counsellor for Brainworx. Paula has taught dance to junior girls and has been a classroom assistant to children with and without special needs. She hopes to continue her education through graduate school with the ultimate goal of applying her attained knowledge to the clinical practice of Psychology.

Jessica Pinkerton, Graduate Student

Jessica completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree at McMaster University in 2011 and is currently completing her Master of Science degree in the department of Kinesiology and Physical Education working with Dr. Pamela Bryden. She has not been involved with Brainworx previously but has counselled and directed programs at the YMCA Camp Ki-Wa-Y where she worked with children aged 4 - 15 years. She is looking forward to the coming months in preparation for this amazing summer program and is excited to teach and inspire this young group of individuals.

Stephanie Ramautar, Graduate Student

Stephanie is a first year Master's student at Wilfrid Laurier University studying neurocognitive function in concussed athletes. She is interested in volunteering with Brainworx because she is looking forward to getting everyone excited about science!

Sara Scharoun, Ph.D Student

This is Sara's third summer with Brainworx. She is pursuing a doctoral degree in kinesiology (neuroscience) at the University of Waterloo under the co-operative supervision of Dr. Pamela Bryden and Dr. Eric Roy. She completed her Master's degree in Kinesiology at Wilfrid Laurier University under the supervision of Dr. Pamela Bryden. Sara received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Human Performance at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where she also played varsity soccer. Sara's research interests include the motor skills and functioning of neurotypical children and children with ASD. She enjoys working with children and has done so in various camp and volunteer settings.

Nicole Williams, Graduate Student

Nicole is a first year Master's student researching handedness and how it develops and may change over the lifespan. Throughout high school, she worked at various children's summer camps in her hometown of Wellington, Ontario. This is Nicole's first year with Brainworx.

Kayleen Willemsen, Undergraduate Student

Kayleen has been working in Dr. Kim Roberts' Child Memory Lab as a Research Assistant since 2011 and she recently completed her undergraduate honours thesis on children's moral development, under the supervision of Dr. Tobias Krettenauer. Kayleen has had extensive experience with children, including volunteering at a daycare, Junior Humane summer camp, organizing parties for children at the SPCA and as a Sunday School teacher. She has also had the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with children who have special needs as a volunteer at KidsAbility Centre for Child Development. This will be Kayleen's first year as a counsellor at BrainWorx and she is excited to meet all of this year's campers.

Katherine Wood, Graduate Student

Katherine Wood completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology in 2012 and is currently Lab Manager for Dr. Kim Roberts' Child Memory Lab. She has been involved in scholarly research at Wilfrid Laurier since 2009 and will be starting her Master's degree in Developmental Psychology in 2013. This will be Katherine's third year being involved with Brainworx summer camp and she's looking forward to this being the best year yet!
