Sports

Canadians of all ages enjoy sports in both summer and winter. In summer, swimming is a popular form of physical recreation, as well as tennis, soccer, golf and baseball. In winter, recreational skiing and hockey are popular, the latter being one of, if not the most, popular sport in Canada.

WLU has an excellent Athletic Complex, which includes a variety of facilities, such as squash courts, three gymnasiums, and weight rooms. The University Stadium also has additional facilities available to students.

Parks

Waterloo Park	Located right next door to WLU. University Stadium is adjacent to the Park and is the home field for WLU Golden Hawks, the university football team and WLU’s men’s and women soccer teams. Other special attractions in the park include tennis courts, a band shell, baseball diamonds and an animal petting zoo.
Victoria Park	Located in the heart of downtown Kitchener, Victoria Park is great in both the summer and winter. During the winter, the frozen pond offers free ice-skating, and in the summer, you can rent paddleboats.
Woodside National Historic Park	Visit here and take a trip into the past when you enter the childhood home of Canada’s tenth Prime Minister, William Lyon Mackenzie King. It is located at 528 Wellington Street North, Kitchener. For information, call (519)742-5673.
Bechtel Park	It offers baseball, soccer, cricket and tennis facilities. To get there, follow University Avenue east, across the Conestoga Expressway and turn right on Bridge Street.
