For ESL Students
We Gotta Read How Many Pages!? – 2 hours
Weekly readings of over 100 pages can seem like an enormous task when you are reading in another language. And it isn’t enough just to finish the readings – you also have to understand what you have read. The key to reading vast amounts of material is being able to read strategically and economically – using techniques to enhance your comprehension of the material.
By participating in this workshop, undergraduate students who are English language learners will be able to:
- complete readings at a faster pace
- use vocabulary strategies to reduce time spent on readings & improve language skills
- employ mapping strategies to increase understanding & make study notes
- do readings without going crazy
Session dates to be announced.
Fast Tracking Language Skills – 2 hours
Did the prince and the princess abide enthusiastically for the duration of their lives or did they live happily ever after? Did the question erupt discussion or did the question provoke discussion? Developing accurate and natural language can take a long time for students who speak English as an additional language, but it’s critical for success in an English university. Knowing how to use language resources fast tracks the development of your language and results in improved communication – and better grades!
This session is intended for students who wish to learn how to employ English language resources (such as an advanced learner's dictionary, a thesaurus, and a collocation dictionary) to make their speech and their writing more accurate and more natural.
Session dates to be announced.
