|John Cleghorn is Chairman of the Board and Director of Canadian Pacific Railway. He is also the Retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Bank of Canada. He joined RBC in October 1974 where he held various positions, until he was appointed President and CEO in November 1994, becoming Chairman and CEO in January 1995, and retiring in July 2001. He is also a director of Molson Coors Brewing Company. He was Chairman of the Board of SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. from May 2002 until May 2007. He is Chancellor Emeritus of Wilfrid Laurier University, a Board Member of the Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies, Governor Emeritus of McGill University, and a director of the Molson Coors Brewing Company and the Atlantic Salmon Federation.
He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2001 and is a Companion of the Canadian Business Hall of Fame. He is also a Fellow of the Institutes of Chartered Accountants in both Ontario and Quebec, and holds honorary degrees from Laurier, Acadia, Bishop’s and McGill universities. John and his wife, Pattie, are funding The Cleghorn Battlefield Fellowships for students at Laurier to tour Canadian battlefields and war cemeteries in Europe.
