Program Information



Honours BA English - 2013/2014

The Honours English program consists of 20.0 credits, of which at least 14.0 credits must be at the senior level, and including a minimum of 10.0 but no more than 14.0 credits in English. Of the required 10.0 credits in English, no more than 1.0 may be at the 100 level, and no more than 1.0 may be chosen from among Film Studies courses. At least 1.0 credit must be chosen from the annual fourth-year offerings; EN489 may be used for only 0.5 credit.

Required Courses:

1.0 credit from EN 119, 120, 121 or 165
1.5 credits from Category 1 (Note: Not more than 0.5 credit in Category 1 may be taken from EN233, EN234, or EN235.);
1.5 credits from Category 2;
1.0 credit from Category 3;
1.0 credit from Category 4; (0.5 credit of which must include EN301)

All students in the program must complete successfully the Brantford Foundations curriculum: BF190, BF199, BF290, BF299. For more information on Brantford Foundations, click here.

Please note that students who enrolled prior to 2013/2014 are not required to take the Brantford Foundations courses. Alternatively, they may continue under the program requirements for the year they enrolled in. This includes completing the requirements for the Contemporary Studies (CT) program (minimum of 5.0 CT credits as outline in the Undergraduate Calendar for the year of enrollment).

Honours BA English in Combination with another Honours BA Program - 2013/2014

The combined Honours English program consists of 20.0 credits, of which 14.0 credits must be at the senior level. Students must take 1.0 credit from EN119, EN120 and EN121; and a minimum of 6.0 senior English credits. This will include at least 1.0 credit from each of the four categories listed below. A 0.5 credit must be chosen from the annual fourth-year offerings.

All students in the program must complete successfully the Brantford Foundations curriculum: BF190, BF199, BF290, BF299. For more information on Brantford Foundations, click here.

Students are encouraged to take EN245 and EN246 as part of their program.

For advice on which English courses best suit each particular combined program, students should consult the English program or their Academic Advisor.

Students cannot combine this program with Honours History or Honours BA Psychology Comprehensive at the Brantford Campus.

English Minor - 2013/2014

The English minor consists of 1.0 credits from EN119, EN120, EN121 or EN165, as well as 2.0 senior English credits.
