Frequently Asked Questions
Dependent means your spouse, legal or common-law. Common-law spouse is a person who has been living with you in a conjugal relationship for at least 12 months. Your unmarried children under age 21 and primarily dependent on your, or under age 26 if they are full-time students.
Children who are incapable of supporting themselves because of physical or mental disorder are covered without age limit if the disorder begins before they turn 21, or while they are students under 26, and the disorder has been continuous since that time.
While typically EFAP counselling is to provide ongoing support on a shorter-term basis there is no cap on the number of sessions available to employees.
In-person counseling services are available in all areas where WLU campuses are located. Please call the intake team at 1-800-663-1142 for a suitable location near you.
Homewood’s standard face-to-face counselling is available 7 days a week. Counselling hours are from 8:00am until 9:00 pm Monday to Friday and between 9am and 5pm Saturday to Sunday. Homewood will also accommodate as needed hours outside of these hours.

Below are some of the multiple confidentiality protection protocols Homewood has in place:
- Services are delivered at convenient, off-site locations
- They do not schedule back to back appointments for two persons from the same organization at the same location.
- They do not leave identifying telephone message at home or work
- Individual records are locked up off site
- All information and electronic services are protected by firewall security technologies
While working in close partnership with WLU towards a successful program implementation and on-going monitoring of the EFAP, we understand and are committed towards ensuring appropriate confidentiality in regards to employee usage of the program to ensure their complete anonymity and privacy. The dedicated Customer Relations team will implement measures to ensure this level of confidentiality in all files.
The only type of information that is provided to WLU by Homewood Health Inc. is a summary of the numbers of people who have used the services and a summary of the types of problems helped in the program. The information is presented in a numerical format only and in no way identifies a particular individual as having used the service. The confidentiality of the program is critical to the use of the program and is something Homewood Health Inc. would never jeopardize.

FAQ on the transition to our new EFAP provider
Counselling sessions with Homewood will be available effective August 1, 2014.
In order not to disrupt counselling services that have already begun, Carizon will continue to provide counselling services to WLU employees up to October 31, 2014
