Double Bind focuses on the experiences of MacKay as an official war artist for the Canadian Department of Defense. The mixed media works reflect the Canadian presence in the wars in Afghanistan and Somalia - works portray the Canadian military presence as neither noble nor heroic but evokes the uncertainty of seeing or understanding a war torn land.
