WLS ministry areas needing your support
| • Annual Fund Appeal (AFA) |
|
| Most annual gifts to WLS are donated in response to the Annual Fund Appeal. Gifts to this is undesignated fund support the annual operations of the seminary. When you make a gift to the AFA, you help to: | |
| o | Pay the salaries of professors and administrative staff; |
| o | Purchase books and periodicals for the library; |
| o | Maintain the seminary building in attractive condition; |
| o | Bring in guest lecturers and performers for the various public lectures and concerts offered to the community. |
| o | Reduce the amount we would otherwise have to charge students for tuition. |
| • Memorial gift |
|
| You can make a donation to the AFA in memory of a loved one or other
person who has played a significant role in your life. In lieu of
flowers, why not make a donation to WLS? Better yet, leave instructions
with your family that instead of flowers at your own funeral, you would
prefer memorial gifts to be made to WLS? |

| • Endowment fund |
|
| An endowment is a named fund created with the condition that the principal is invested and never spent, while the investment income is disbursed for a charitable purpose. Over the years, many WLS supporters have created or contributed to a variety of endowment funds that fall into the following broad categories: | |
| Student aid | These include entrance scholarships, bursaries for students in financial need, and prizes awarded on the basis of academic performance in a given area of study. |
| Faculty chair | Endowing a chair for a faculty member provides the income needed to pay the incumbent’s salary and expenses. It is a high academic honour to be appointed to an endowed chair. WLS currently has endowed chairs in three disciplines. |
| Worship & chapel | An endowed fund currently provides income that defrays the operating expenses of the seminary community’s worship life in the Keffer Memorial Chapel. |
| Library | Books and periodicals are purchased with income provided by an endowment fund created years ago for this specific purpose. |
| General | General, undesignated or discretionary endowment funds provide a source of income that can be used by the administration where it is needed the most. |
You can contribute to an existing endowment fund at any time with a gift of any size. For more information about contributing to an existing fund, contact Dorinda Kruger Allen at dkrugerallen@wlu.ca or (519) 884-0710 ext 3241. |
|
| New endowment funds require a minimum commitment of $20,000. To inquire
about creating a new fund, please contact Jeff Pym at jpym@elfec.ca or

| • Other funds |
|
| Loan Replacement | Several years ago WLS replaced a commercial loan by soliciting no-interest loans from individuals and congregations in the Eastern Synod. From time to time these generous lenders ask for their money back. Gifts to the Loan Replacement Fund provide money we can use to reimburse a lender when the loan is called. |
| Property Redevelopment |
As it enters its second century, WLS is actively examining the options for renewing both its property and its programs. Donations to the Property Redevelopment Fund will help us update our building and facilities. |
