David Foot - Keynote Speaker
Annual Teaching Day 2006
On Wednesday August 30, Educational Development is hosting its annual teaching conference in the Bricker Academic Building. The theme for this year’s event - Engaging and Understanding the Millennial Learner - picks up from April’s discussion forum on Exploring the Millennial Student, co-hosted by Teaching Support Services and the Teaching, Learning and Technology Steering Committee.
The day is set to begin with a keynote address led by Dr. David Foot - professor of economics at the University of Toronto, 3M Teaching Fellow and well-known author of the books - Boom, Bust & Echo: How to Profit from the Coming Demographic Shift and the updated paperback version - Boom, Bust & Echo: Profiting from the Demographic Shift in the 21st Century.
Dr. Foot will provide a “big picture” perspective on students of the day and the rising implications for faculty and support staff in higher education. A panel will follow with members from the Laurier community to contextualize the matter more locally. Dr. Foot will contribute to the panel by responding to panelist comments. Lunch and a series of concurrent sessions will follow at which dialogue on the millennial learner and the millennial teacher will continue.
If you are interested in hosting an afternoon concurrent session (e.g., on a teaching innovation or strategy that engages students), please contact Jeanette McDonald (jmcdonald@wlu.ca / 519 884-0710, ext. 3211).
The event is free to members of the Laurier community. Faculty and academic support staff from neighbouring institutions are welcome to join us. The registration fee for non Laurier members is $50.
Online registration is closed. Please contact Debbie Lutz at 519 884-0710, ext. 3507 for more information.
