Relay for Life, Program
Laurier psychology professors Dr. Anne Wilson and Dr. Pamela Sadler laced up their sneakers this year to support the Canadian Cancer Society in its Relay for Life. They were raising money in memory of Reilly Jordan, daughter of fellow psychology professor Christian Jordan. Reilly passed away in 2008 at age 2 from leukemia.
“As a parent, I saw this family go through an unimaginable tragedy,” says Wilson. “Their strength, determination, love and support for Reilly through her difficult treatments were simply inspiring.”
Faculty, staff and students on Laurier’s Brantford campus also support the mission to find a cure for cancer. Only in its second year, the university’s Relay for Life event was attended by more than 280 people and raised more than $35,000 for the cause. Organizers hope the event will continue to grow.
“It is fantastic to see a group of participants coming together for a shared purpose, to celebrate the many victorious against the disease and to honour those who courageously fought but were not as fortunate,” says Greg Stewart, coordinator of recreation and programs.
