Mike Morrice, Alumnus
Mike Morrice (BBA/BSc ’08) has always been a firm believer in social change. As a Laurier student, he successfully lobbied for the university’s dining hall to switch to cage-free eggs.
Now he has set his sights on the environment. Morrice is the co-founder and executive director of Sustainable Waterloo, a not-for-profit organization that guides technology-related companies in Waterloo Region toward a more environmentally friendly future by reducing carbon emissions. He measures emissions, helps participating companies reach reduction targets and recognizes those that do well.
The idea for Sustainable Waterloo emerged while Morrice was studying carbon emission policies for an independent study project at Laurier.
“I realized that after graduating I could really make a living doing what I’m passionate about and make a difference,” says Morrice, who received funding from founding partners in the region, including Laurier’s CMA Centre for Responsible Organizations. “This provides a special opportunity to bring about collaborative and innovative solutions to the challenge of global climate change.”
