Controlled Drug and Substance Act

This act is located in the Canadian Criminal Code of Canada

As of September 2003, this act is still in effect and is still being enforced by Canadian Law Enforcement Agencies, including Laurier Community Safety & Security.

In the CSDA drugs are classified into schedules. Each schedule has it's own set of punishments.

·         Opium

·         Heroin

·         Ecstasy

·         Cannabis

·         Hashish

·         Hash oil

·         Amphetamine

·         Methaphetamines

·         Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD)


Punishments for Possession

Indictable

7 years in jail

5 years less a day

3 years


Summary Offence

First Offence

$1000.00 fine and/or 6 months in jail

$1000.00 fine and/or 6 months in jail

$1000.00 fine and/or 6 months in jail

Second Offence

$2000.00 fine and/or 1 year in jail

$2000.00 fine and/or 1 year in jail

$2000.00 fine and/or 1 year in jail


Punishments for Trafficking or Possession for Purposes of Trafficking
