ENS FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which computers will receive an on-screen emergency message in the event of a significant on-campus emergency?
A: Most university-owned desktops and laptops. ITS has installed a "client" on these computers. The client allows the ENS to "talk" to these computers in the event of a significant emergency.

Q: What do I do if I receive an emergency message on my computer screen?
A: Follow the instructions contained in the message. An “all clear” message will be sent when the emergency is over. For more information about what to do in an emergency, see Laurier’s Emergency Lockdown procedures at www.wlu.ca/emergency

Q: How do I register my cellphone or mobile number for the ENS service?
A: You need a valid LORIS ID and PIN. You can register your cellphone or mobile number at http://telaris.wlu.ca

Q: When can I expect to receive my opt-in ENS text message?
A: Within 24 hours after you subscribe to the service.

Q: Will the university use my cellphone or mobile number for any other purpose?
A: No. The university will only use you cellphone or mobile number for sending emergency texts and occasional test messages related to the ENS.

Q: Do I have to pay for the texts I receive from the ENS?
A: This depends on your personal mobile plan. Please check with your network provider to find out about the cost of receiving general texts. Also see the ENS user guide: http://wlu.ca/documents/53568/ENS_User_Documentation.pdf

Q: What do I do when I receive an emergency text?
