What happens during the Counselling Session?
The counsellor will work to establish a comfortable environment so that during their visits individuals will feel less anxious about their particular problem. The first thing the counsellor tries to do when seeing somebody is to listen to their concerns. That way the counsellor can understand the problem and explore the expectations that the individual has to resolve this problem.
The counsellor helps the individual focus on options and choices and develops a strategy to reduce the strain of the problem. This may be done in two, three or more sessions. The counsellor will also give some objective feedback and do some problem solving with the individual to look at options and choices to help reduce some of the stress around their concern. Together they can come up with a plan that is going to be helpful. Counselling is geared to a solution focus. Mutual goals and mutual termination are agreed upon.
How long is each counselling session?
