In my first year I lived in Imperial Hall which is all double rooms. I remember getting my residence placement in the summer before first year and crying. I didnít want to live in a double room. This was my first time ever being away from home for more than two nights and I was scared. But, once I got into my residence living in Brantford was so much fun! I loved having a double room; it was kind of like a sleepover every night. We all had so much fun because there was such a variety of people. One of the biggest skills I took from residence though was time management. With so many people doing different things all the time it is easy to forget about school work. Donít forget you are a student first!
My second year and going into third year I am living with two people I lived with in first year. I like living in an apartment building that has Brantford citizens in it too because I get to know more people than just students. I chose my apartment because I am very involved on campus and it was only a two minute walk away.
I love living in Brantford because the community has everything I would need. I am originally from Ingersoll, which is very small, so coming to Brantford and having a Wal-mart and movie theatre within 10 minute drive (it is also right on the bus route!) is amazing for me. Plus Brantford is only 45 minutes from my house so I can go home when I want to but my parents donít make surprise visits.
I lived in my apartment this summer as well by myself. Both of my roommates went home. I loved it but it does get a bit lonely. When choosing a place to live off campus make sure you enjoy the company of the people you live with. Donít get pressured into signing a lease too fast or too soon. Take your time and donít forget to get your lease checked by Legal Resources!
