Being a student in Brantford was truly an amazing experience. Not only was I able to be a part of Laurier Brantford as a student, but I was able to become a part of the Brantford community as the school was so closely knit within the community.
One thing I enjoyed most about being a student in Brantford was how easy it is to take advantage of attending a smaller university. It was very easy to meet people/make friends, as well as becoming familiar with campus and the community. Everything is in walking distance, so I did not need to depend on a bus to get to class.
As a student living in residence and then a student house, I definitely made use of my bus pass as I did not have a car. The bus system seemed overwhelming at first, but it was super easy to learn once you figured out what stops took you where. Since I lived away from home, I also made use of the greyhound station which is also located at the bus terminal, so this made getting home super easy!
When I moved out of residence and into a student house with 4 girlfriends, it was a completely new experience. We were now responsible for paying bills, cleaning, decorating the house and so much more! I found myself to have more freedom living off campus than in a residence.
We were able to have our friends/guests over whenever we wanted, as well as some fun parties for Halloween and St. Patrick's Day! There is nothing better than living in a house with your friends!
Some things I wish I knew before moving to Brantford:
- Different transportation services offered: The Greyhound and the Via Rail stations are both within walking distance, and both have lines running east and west regularly.
- Groceries stores in the area: There is one within walking distance, and many on bus routes in Brantford.
- Night life: Brantford has options for night life, but the most fun is to go where everyone else does and be among friends.
