Laurier prep courses offer incoming students opportunity to test drive university life
Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing
For incoming students, the summer before the first year of university can be a time of great excitement, curiosity, and perhaps a bit of nervousness about what lies ahead. Laurier offers university prep courses that recreate the university experience and help ease the transition from high school to post-secondary education.
University 101 allows students to experience academic life through assignments and lectures that focus on key skills such as time management, learning styles, critical thinking, active reading, active listening, study-aid development and note taking, as well as test-taking strategies.
University 102 focuses on helping students with researching and writing strategies to improve thesis development, critical reading and reflection, how to write academically and properly cite sources, as well proofreading skills.
These courses are non-credit certificate courses and are open to any student who plans to attend a post-secondary institution in September.
University 101 and 102 are offered in two formats:
- An in-class option is available at Laurierís Waterloo and Brantford campuses and Toronto office. Each course is a week and start at the beginning of August. The Waterloo and Brantford courses cost $375, and the Toronto course costs $475 each.
- An online option is also available for 101 and can begin at any time but must be completed by August 18. This course costs $375.
