Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing
First-year students will begin arriving this week on Laurierís Waterloo and Brantford campuses. The university and senior students are all set to give them an enthusiastic welcome and to help them move in as efficiently as possible. Here is whatís happening on both the Waterloo and Brantford campuses:
The Laurier community is preparing to welcome nearly 4,000 new first-year students to the Waterloo campus this week. In addition, over 500†senior students will volunteer as leaders to enthusiastically welcome our newest Golden Hawks to Laurier. To accommodate studentsí arrival, move-in will occur over two days: Sunday, Sept. 4 and Monday, Sept. 5, depending on residence building.
Registration will occur from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. both days in the Athletic†Complex.
To place an increased focus on studentsí academic transition to†Laurier, the Academic and Student Success day has been moved to an†earlier time in the week and will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
In long-standing tradition, Orientation Week will culminate with†Shinerama on Saturday, Sept. 10. Shinerama is Canada's largest†college and university fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis research and†treatment. It was started at Laurier in 1961. Each September over 35,000†students from across Canada go out into their communities and raise money by shining cars, shoes, and bikes, and by holding barbecues and selling candy sales. To date, Shinerama has raised over $21.5 million, with over $2 million coming from Laurier.
