Laurier mourns longtime employee Charlotte Cox

Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Jan 20/14

Charlotte Anne Cox, a longtime administrative employee at Laurier, passed away Jan. 11 in Victoria, BC. She was 75.

A Waterloo native, Cox joined Laurier in 1976, initially working in the English department. During her 22 years of service, Cox became heavily involved in the university community. She assisted many researchers by typing manuscripts for publication and, as late Laurier professor Flora Roy wrote in her 2006 book Recollections of Waterloo Lutheran University, 1960-1973, “… became foster mother to the English department.”

Cox went on to work as an executive assistant in the Faculty of Arts and Science, serving under longtime dean Arthur “Art” Read. In 1991, she won one of 17 awards given to Laurier staff for United Way participation. She also sat on several administrative committees while working at Laurier, and after her retirement in 1998 was an active member of the Wilfrid Laurier University Retirees’ Association, holding multiple executive positions.

Cox moved to Victoria in November 2011, where she lived until her passing.

A mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Cox is survived by her three children and their families, as well as her two sisters and their families.
