Laurier takes top honours at business school competitions
Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing
The School of Business & Economics recently earned several awards – including School of the Year – through a competition involving academic, social, athletic and entrepreneurship skills, as well as a student case competition.
At the recent Jeux du Commerce (JDC) Central Competition, hosted at Laurier, more than 400 business students from universities across Canada were assessed on academic excellence, athletics, school spirit, teamwork and competitive congeniality.
For the second year in a row, Laurier was named School of the Year. Laurier’s JDC Central team also placed in seven out of 11 categories – taking first place in social, debate, business strategy and management information systems; second place in participation and sports and third place in entrepreneurship.
"I couldn't believe how tight the competition was this year," said Aneesh Lal, president of Laurier’s School of Business & Economics Students’ Society (SBESS). “I am so proud of the Laurier team, not only did they win School of the Year again, they showed everyone just why Laurier has one of the best business schools around.”
Laurier business students also participated in a recent DECA U Provincial Case Competition in downtown Toronto. More than 1,000 students from universities across Ontario participated in the event.
Laurier SBE students brought home 16 medals in a variety of categories including accounting, automotive, retail management, restaurant services, travel and tourism, sports entertainment, human resources and e-commerce. Laurier’s DECA chapter also received the Delegates Development Award.
