U-Desk offers expanded services at Laurier's Waterloo and Brantford campuses

Aug 29/12

The Students’ Union U-Desk now offers expanded services at Laurier's Waterloo and Brantford campuses for graduate and undergraduate students, staff, faculty and alumni.

The Graduate Students’ Association and Students’ Union have officially partnered in providing services. As well, there is now a location at the Brantford campus, which replaces Peer Connect.

“We are really trying to create a concierge service for the Laurier community,” said Kyle Walker, director, member services at the Students' Union. “It helps that we have trained staff to service both graduate and undergraduate students.”

The U-Desk – for Union Desk – is a one-stop shop for many campus services. As part of its services, the U-Desk offers free technology rentals, including laptops, iPads, projectors, and cameras. The U-Desk also offers:

•    Registration for Orientation Week and LOCUS
•    Undergraduate Health and Dental Plan information and services
•    Campus event tickets
•    Laurier varsity and Homecoming tickets
•    Chicopee lift tickets
•    Galaxy, Princess Cinema and Empire Theatre movie tickets
•    Yuk Yuks comedy tickets
•    Locker rentals
•    Inter-office mail drop off
•    Canada Post
•    Ink refills
•    General inquires
•    SPC Cards
•    ISIC Cards

As well, the U-Desk now offers a new ticket system for campus clubs or departments. Tickets for events can be printed at the U-Desk as they are sold. There is also an e-commerce option. For a complete list of services, visit the Students' Union website.

The U-Desk is located in the Fred Nichols Campus Centre Hall of Fame at the Waterloo campus. The U-Desk at the Brantford campus is located on the first floor of the Student Centre.

Walker says the U-Desk is seeking suggestions about additional services it can offer students, staff and faculty. Send your suggestions to Walker via email at kwalker@wlu.ca or by phone at 519-884-0710 ext. 3434.
