Laurier alumni and faculty featured in National Flute Association convention concert

Aug 18/14

Works written by two Wilfrid Laurier University music composition alumni were featured in a concert of Ontario composers at the National Flute Association Convention in Chicago, Illinois on Aug. 9. The concert also saw performances from a pair of Laurier faculty members.

"Writing the Voice, at a Distance, No.2," by Sally Norris (B.Mus. 06) and "Four Pieces for Flute Ensemble" by Ryan Trew (B.Mus. 02)   commissioned by the Laurier Flute Ensemble were performed by prominent Canadian flutists including Laurier professor Amy Hamilton. Meanwhile, Laurier collaborative pianist and coach accompanist Stephanie Mara (B.Mus. 94) provided piano accompaniment for the concert.

The works were chosen for the program by world-renowned Canadian composer and flutist Robert Aitken and his daughter Dianne. Robert Aitken also performed his own compositions during the program, which was attended by flutists and composers from across the United States and Canada.
