Library’s Food for Fines program supports the Laurier Student Food Bank

Nov 26/13

For the seventh year running, the Laurier Library is sponsoring the Food for Fines program. Both the Waterloo and Kitchener campuses are participating this year.

Between Nov. 19 and Dec. 16, you can help support the Laurier Student Food Bank – and reduce your Laurier Library fines – by donating non-perishable, non-expired food items at the Library Services and Help Desk (or the Kitchener main desk).

Since 2005, well over 5,000 lbs of food have been donated to local food banks through this program. This year, for the first time, Library fines will be reduced by $3 for each non-perishable, non-expired food item that is brought in, with a maximum of a $15 reduction.

The Laurier Student Food Bank opened in October 2006 to help students in need to meet their basic nutritional needs. The service, which is completely anonymous, is run by students and is part of the Food Bank of Waterloo Region network.

Additional food items are welcome, as well as donations from people without library fines.
