Donate at Laurier’s blood clinics: Waterloo campus Oct. 11; Brantford campus Nov. 22
As a Canadian Blood Services Partner for Life (PFL), Wilfrid Laurier University pledged to collect 800 units of blood in 2012. To help reach this goal, Laurier hosts mobile blood clinics on campus to make donating easy. The Waterloo campus is holding a mobile clinic Oct. 11, 2012 in the Senate & Board Chamber, and the Brantford campus is holding a clinic on Nov. 22 in the multi-purpose room in the Student Centre.
To date, Laurier is almost halfway to its goal; so more than 400 units of blood still need to be collected this semester.
People interested in donating can now sign-up online. Slots are available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Waterloo campus and from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the Brantford campus.
To book online:
- Visit donateblood.ca.
- Click the “book an appointment” button. Here, new donors can register an account and existing donors can sign in.
- When logged into their account, donors can search for clinics by web-code or city. The web-code for Laurier’s Waterloo clinic is 289283, and the Brantford clinic is 289418.
- When the proper clinic is chosen, the available times will be displayed. Pick a time and a confirmation email will be sent. A reminder email will also be sent a few days prior to the clinic.
The Laurier University Charity Kouncil (LUCK), a student club on the Waterloo campus, has been instrumental in helping the university achieve its donation target. This year, third-year Communication Studies student Jacqueline Bar is filling a new role that oversees the partnership between Canadian Blood Services (CBS) and Laurier.
“There is always a shortage of blood,” she said. “We need to help students realize donating blood is a minor thing they can do that can go a really long way.”
In addition to promoting CBS in student residences, LUCK will be holding a “What’s Your Type” clinic in the concourse Oct. 2, from noon to 2 p.m. Participants can learn more about donating blood and what blood type they are.
For the Oct. 11 clinic, LUCK is holding a Twitter contest for people who donate. Participants can tweet a picture of themselves donating to @wluluck using the hashtags #wlu and #whyidonate to enter themselves into a draw from a package donated by CBS.
If you can’t give blood at either of the mobile clinics, you can call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283) to book an appointment at a Canadian Blood Services’ permanent clinic. Don’t forget to give Laurier’s Partners for Life ID number: WILF001529. You will only need to give this number the first time you sign up, and then it will be linked to your donor card information.
About the Partners for Life program

By joining Canadian Blood Services’ PFL program, Laurier pledges to collect a certain number of donations every year. The partnership encompasses all of Laurier’s campuses. Students, staff, faculty, alumni, spouses and friends can donate blood at their convenience by calling 1-888-2-DONATE and quoting Laurier’s PFL ID#: WILF001529.
