Laurier Brantford and the Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association (WLUAA) added to the celebratory mood on campus when they unveiled Alumni Hall recently.

Alumni Hall, a lecture hall in the new SC Johnson Building at Laurier's Brantford campus, was named in recognition of a $65,000 gift from WLUAA and the estate of Walter Metzger. The Alumni Association will use a large display board outside the classroom to advertise upcoming events and other items of interest to current students and alumni.

“The Alumni Association saw this as a unique opportunity to support the growth and development of the Brantford campus, and establish a stronger connection with the students and future alumni,” said Tom Berczi, president of WLUAA. “We are very pleased to support such a worthwhile project, and look forward to continuing to support worthwhile projects at Laurier Brantford.”

Other remarks celebrating the gifts came from Max Blouw, president of Wilfrid Laurier University; Lesley Cooper, acting principal/vice-president of Laurier Brantford; Rob Donelson, vice-president: Development and Alumni Relations; Chief Bill Montour of Six Nations; Phil McColeman, MP for Brant; Dave Levac, MPP for Brant; and Mike Hancock, mayor of the City of Brantford.

The SC Johnson Building was made possible through the support of SC Johnson in celebration of its 90th anniversary and through leadership gifts from Raymond Industrial and community supporters.

The new building houses growth programs at Laurier Brantford, including a proposed business school.

The facility is also home to Laurier Brantford’s innovative leadership program and its integrated learning centre, which brings together community service-learning, cooperative education and other forms of work-integrated learning.
