First young alumni challenge a success

Wilfrid Laurier University launched its first-ever fundraising campaign aimed specifically at encouraging young alumni to give back to their alma mater last May. The Young Alumni Challenge sought to engage recent graduates and was championed by Laurier’s Alumni Association, which pledged to match gifts one-to-one up to a total of $25,000.

Thanks to the support of more than 400 young alumni, the challenge was a great success. A total of $50,411.73 was raised. The money will support areas that our young alumni feel most passionate about.

“Laurier is very fortunate to have such a committed alumni association,” said Roly Webster, associate director, alumni relations. “Because of the alumni association’s vision and leadership in recognizing the need to reconnect with Laurier’s young alumni, along with matched funding, the challenge was a great success.”

The campaign encouraged young alumni to pick their passion and give back to an area that had a significant impact on their lives while at Laurier, helping to pave the way for future generations of Laurier students.

“It is important that we work with various groups on campus to think of innovative ways to raise funds for Laurier,” said Rob Donelson, vice-president: development and alumni relations. “The Young Alumni Challenge is a great example of the success we can achieve working collaboratively with other areas on campus.”
