No indication that gastrointestinal symptoms related to food consumption

Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Oct 31/13

Wilfrid Laurier University's Health Services team became aware of a small number of students who presented with similar gastrointestinal symptoms Wednesday morning. As a proactive measure, Laurier's Health Services and Food Services contacted Region of Waterloo Public Health, and they conducted a full inspection of the dining hall on Wednesday.

At this time, there has not been any indication that these symptoms are connected to food consumption. Some of the students with gastrointestinal symptoms did not eat at Laurier's dining hall. Proper investigation and data collection is ongoing.

Laurier is committed to the health and well-being of everyone in the university community, and will continue to work with Health Services, Food Services and the Region of Waterloo Public Health to monitor health conditions on campus and to provide updated information.

The students who were seen were advised to take Gravol, stay hydrated, and rest. With any flu or virus, the best precaution is to avoid contact with those who are ill and to clean and sanitize your hands as often as possible throughout the day.

Students who are exhibiting gastrointestinal or flu-like symptoms are encouraged to visit Health Services or see their family doctor.
