Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Sep 30/13

Acclaimed Canadian pianist and Wilfrid Laurier University honorary degree recipient Anton Kuerti will lead a masterclass Saturday, Oct. 5 on Laurierís Waterloo campus.

Kuerti, who was born in Austria, has performed in almost forty countries, including Japan, Russia and most of Europe. In the United States alone, he has performed with most major orchestras and conductors, including the Boston Symphony, the New York Philharmonic, the National Symphony (Menuhin), Cleveland Orchestra (Szell), Philadelphia Orchestra (Ormandy), and the orchestras of Atlanta, Denver, Detroit, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and San Francisco. His vast repertoire includes 50 concertos, including one he composed himself.

In 2007, Kuerti won the Schumann Prize of the Schumann Gesellschaft in Germany and the National Arts Prize of the Banff Centre in Canada. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada and the recipient of several honorary doctorates, including a Doctor of Letters from Laurier, which he received in 2005.

In addition to his distinguished concert schedule, Kuerti is one of todayís most recorded artists. He has recorded every Beethoven concerto and sonata, the Schubert sonatas and the Brahms concertos, among others. His recordings are heard almost daily on CBC Radio.

Kuertiís masterclass begins at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 5 in the Maureen Forrester Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Please note that seating is limited, and attendees will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Anton Kuerti appears by arrangement with Jonathan Wentworth Assoc. Ltd. office@jwentworth.com
