Laurier launches ASPIRE for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows

Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Sep 9/13

On September 5, Laurier launched ASPIRE, a professional skills development training program for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Through a framework and accessible website, ASPIRE will help students to craft an individualized learning plan tailored to navigate the professional journey and entry to the workplace.

Through the ASPIRE portal, a website coordinated by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FGPS), students and postdoctoral fellows can access tools and resources from across the university designed to help articulate professional goals, identify transferrable knowledge and skill sets, and locate a slate of offerings and program information that meet personal and professional goals.

"ASPIRE puts into one place Laurier's existing and new opportunities for professionalization at the graduate and postdoctoral levels," said Tamas Dobozy, associate dean, Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. "It's the beginning of a comprehensive suite of offerings for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows looking to augment and particularize the skills they've developed in graduate programs, and is Laurier's latest entry into the national discussion around the benefits of a graduate education to society at large."

ASPIRE is the result of a collaboration between FGPS and a number of services, including the Career Development Centre, Educational Development, Diversity and Equity Office, Student Leadership Centre, Learning Services, the Library, the Graduate Students' Association, Laurier International, Office of Research Services, the Intercultural Development Office, and Accessible Learning. Program offerings from the Mitacs Step program are also available.
