Parking information during demolition at the Global Innovation Exchange site
Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing
Steps are underway to prepare for the demolition phase of the Global Innovation Exchange (GIE) building on the former St. Michaelís site. For details and up-to-date information about the GIE and the design and construction process, please visit www.wlu.ca/gie.
In preparation for the demolition phase of the project, the utilities at St. Michaelís have been disconnected, including the lighting in the parking lot. For this reason, parking at this site is temporarily closed after 6 p.m. The parking lot will remain closed in the evenings until utilities are re-connected and nighttime lighting becomes operational at the GIE demolition site. An update will be posted to www.wlu.ca/gie when evening parking is available again.
During the six-week demolition period beginning in late September/early October, approximately 50 of the 264 parking spots behind the former St. Michaelís school will be unavailable, but will reopen by mid-November. With recent campus moves to 255 King Street, the overall parking inventory at the Waterloo campus will remain constant. Regular updates about parking availability during the demolition phase and the construction phase will be posted at www.wlu.ca/gie as information becomes available.
During the demolition period, construction vehicles will use University Avenue to enter and exit the site (avoiding morning and afternoon rush hour periods). Laurier community members are asked to exercise caution while entering and exiting.
To ensure safety on the former St. Michaelís site, Laurierís Special Constable Service will provide extra patrols.
In fall 2012, once the GIE construction period begins, parking lots 32 and 33 will be closed and alternate parking arrangements will be made available.
