WLU CMTS Speaker Series - Dr. Calveiro's lecture "Public and Private Violence in the Global World"
The WLU CMTS Speaker Series for this academic year will end with the public lecture of international guest speaker Dr. Pilar Calveiro from the University of Puebla, Mexico. Dr. Calveiro's lecture is titled "Public and Private Violence in the Global World" and will take place on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 1:00-3:00 in the Paul Martin Centre.
Professor Calveiro was born in Buenos Aires. In the 1970s she was arrested by the Argentine military dictatorship in 1977, and considered officially "disappeared” for a year and a half in several clandestine centres where detainees were submitted to brutal treatment. Calveiro obtained her PhD in Political Science at the National Autonomous University of Mexico; her thesis was a reflection of the effects of State terrorism in Argentina.
The event is organized by the Centre for Memory and Testimony Studies and sponsored by the Department of Languages and Literatures at WLU, and the Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies at the UW.
We hope that you will mark this event in your calendar and we look forward to seeing you there!
