Laurier's Guidance contest winner announced
Wilfrid Laurier University is pleased to announce the winner of the ‘Announce to Win’ guidance counsellor contest, which ran from October to November, 2013, to help promote Laurier’s Fall Open Houses at the Brantford and Waterloo campuses.
Melissa Stephens, manager of marketing & communications in the Recruitment and Admissions Department, presented a cheque for $500 to the winner, Larry Tarnowski, assistant head of student services at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in Hamilton, on January 10, 2014.
“Ideally, the money will purchase a couple of tablets to use with students,” said Tarnowski. “So instead of me doing the searching for them on Career Cruising or Ontario Universities’ Application Centre sites, they’re going to learn so much better by doing it themselves.”
Laurier’s Recruitment & Admissions Department ran the contest for high school guidance counsellors to mention the open houses on their morning announcements. Each time they ran the announcement, they were invited to go online to enter the contest. The winning school would receive $500 to purchase something they need for the school – a new piece of equipment, electronics or books – or put the money towards a current fundraising initiative.
