Garmisch-Partenkirchen Captures 2018 Winter Olympics in KP441

Apr 23/08

KP441 - The Modern Olympics course is taught by Dr. Stephen Wenn

A team representing Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany comprised of Joel Cressman, Gary Cressy, Michelle Dalgleish, Madison Lubbock, Connor Smith, and Steve Williams, captured top honours in the Olympic bid city presentation competition in Dr. Stephen Wenn’s KP 441 (The Modern Olympic Games) class.  In the final round of voting by class members, Garmisch-Partenkirchen triumphed over Tarvisio, Italy (Kristi Acorn, Josh Barks, Hailey Davidge, Carly Devlin, Alex Garner, and Danielle Rivard) by 16 votes to 10.  “Garmisch-Partenkirchen put together a fine audio-visual presentation in support of its bid blending fine visuals with highly appropriate music selection, while also capitalizing on Garmisch’s past opportunity to host the Olympic Winter Games in 1936,” observed Wenn.  “And, Tarvisio had a fine plan to make this small community the go to place for winter sport in northern Italy.  I can understand why the students in the class narrowed the choice to these two bid city concepts,” he noted.  “The class exerted significant energy this term, and happily, I could have also made an argument for any of the other competing cities, Helsinki, Graz, and Oslo, to have walked away with the most votes,” stated Dr. Wenn.
