WATERLOO – Wilfrid Laurier University’s final 100th anniversary celebration will be a one-of-a-kind centennial party, where attendees will have the chance to win naming privileges on a new university scholarship. Laurier’s birthday bash, titled “Ahead by a Century,” takes place Saturday, Oct. 29, 6:30 p.m. at Bingemans Conference Centre in Kitchener.
The winner of the Ahead by a Century scholarship door-prize draw will have the new entrance scholarship named after them (for example: the “John Smith Second Century Entrance Scholarship”). The door-prize winner will also be invited to a reception honouring student award recipients. The scholarship will be partly supported by funds from the Ahead by a Century event.
The Ahead by a Century event, which is led by steering committee co-chairs Iain Klugman (MBA ’01), CEO and president of Communitech, and Jane Jantzi (BA ’96), director, Business Development at Deloitte, will be a unique celebration of Laurier's 100-year history. It will be an interactive, energetic and exciting evening for both alumni and community members, and put the finishing touches on Laurier’s year of celebrations.
“With a century of achievements to recognize, the university’s 100th anniversary celebration is sure to be a very special evening,” said Laurier President and Vice-Chancellor Max Blouw. “I am delighted that so many Laurier alumni and members of the Kitchener-Waterloo community have devoted their time to organizing this event. The example that Jane and Iain set in their exceptional involvement reinforces the level of engagement that Laurier enjoys with the community that has supported us for 100 years.”
Tickets for Ahead by a Century are now on sale at www.laurier100.ca/aheadbyacentury/tickets. Event tickets are $100 per person, which includes two drink tickets, a variety of gourmet foods and entertainment.
“On behalf of the entire organizing committee, we look forward to seeing you at Laurier’s 100th anniversary bash,” said Klugman. “It will be a celebration unlike any other – an outside-the-box party that will go down in history as the event of the century. You will leave knowing Laurier better, and be more proud than ever to be part of the Laurier community.”
