Fill-the-Cruiser campaign a huge success on Laurier's Brantford campus

Dec 5/13

The Laurier Brantford Special Constable Services first annual “Fill-the-Cruiser” campaign was a success, with a police cruiser literally overflowing with toys and canned goods in support of Brantford’s Community Resource Service and the Christmas Baskets program.

The goal was simple: to ensure that no child goes without a toy at Christmas, and that no family goes without Christmas dinner. On Dec. 2, with the help of Laurier’s campus community, more than 17 boxes of toys and food were collected and donated.

“We are incredibly thankful for the support for the program this year,” said James Yuhasz, special constable services manager on the Brantford campus. “We donated over 450 pounds of food and almost 200 toys, which will hopefully help make the holidays a little brighter for families in Brantford, Brant County and Six Nations.”

In addition to donations made directly to the Special Constable Services office on Market Street, the Stedman Community Bookstore, Academic Administration and Residence Life also collected on behalf of the program. Physical Resources also helped by volunteering its pick-up truck to transport the donations that didn’t fit in the cruiser.

According to Cindy Oliver, the Christmas Baskets program manager, more than 2,250 families and individuals received assistance from the Christmas Baskets and Christmas dinner program last year.
