Global volunteer opportunities for students

Oct 26/12

1) Reading Week 2013 Habitat Global Village-El Salvador, Laurier Student Build

The Global Village program sends volunteer teams overseas on short work projects. Global Village trips are designed to assist with building homes for families in need both through the fundraising efforts of the team members and their hands-on participation on a build. The costs of the trips vary, depending donations and fundraising efforts. No special construction skills are required just a desire to help and enthusiasm for meeting new people and learning about their culture. We are in the process of assessing interest, and actively seeking participants. Very soon we will confirm the details. If you would potentially be interested in joining a closed team for Wilfrid Laurier University students over reading week 2013, please contact Mary Crawford at craw9140@mylaurier.ca or visit http://www.habitatglobalvillage.ca

2) May 2-15th 2013 Solidarity in Action-Peru, Laurier Student Volunteer Trip

Solidarity in Action, Inc. (SIA) empowers Canadian post-secondary students and adults to make a difference in developing communities in South America. We offer unique and unforgettable trips for you to dig into the local culture, explore social issues and work alongside local people to expand your skills and improve communities. You'll also have the chance to discover important historic and cultural sites. Solidarity in Action invites you to join us in South America in 2013 for our SIA Trips Abroad program. Each trip is unique, offering different cultural experiences and placement opportunities. As a trip participant, you will spend a week working at volunteer placements, which could include teaching, health care and construction in schools, medical clinics, shantytown communities and more. You will explore local culture by interacting with local people, visiting historic sites (Machu Picchu, Peru and the Salinas and Cuanca, Ecuador) and more. The cost of the trip includes transportation, airfare, accommodation, meals and some cultural visits. Payments are made in three installments, for more information please contact info@solidarityinaction.ca or visit http://www.solidarityinaction.ca/2013-programs/
