BRANTFORD – A varsity hockey game, an athletics and recreation reunion, an international lunch and a reading for children are all part of Laurier Brantford’s fourth annual Homecoming celebrations taking place Saturday, Oct. 20.
“Homecoming at Laurier Brantford is incredibly unique, with events designed for our alumni and current students as well as the community,” said Ann Brandt, associate director, development and alumni relations. “From the children’s reading in the morning to the hockey game at night, the Brantford community has always been a part of the campus, and we invite them to celebrate with us.”
The day begins with a children’s book reading at the Stedman Community Bookstore at 11 a.m. The event is free, and features face painting and games.
To mark the 10th anniversary of the Laurier-Nipissing Concurrent Education program, Nipissing will be hosting an international food festival beginning at noon. The event will feature dishes from Kenya, Italy and China, where students have taken part in international teaching placements, as well as information about opportunities for teaching and traveling abroad.
Former staff, athletes and supporters will have a chance to reconnect at a special athletics and recreation reunion. Laurier Brantford’s athletics department has been expanding over the years, and alumni will have an opportunity to hear about the plans for the new Laurier Brantford YMCA athletics and recreation centre.
All are welcome to join the tailgate party in the Research and Academic Centre courtyard beginning at 5 p.m. before heading over to the Brantford Civic Centre to watch the varsity men’s Golden Hawks hockey team take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves at 7:30 p.m.
All events are open to Laurier alumni, students, community members, faculty and staff.
