WATERLOO – Wilfrid Laurier University will honour more than 300 of its exceptional student scholarship recipients with events for students and donors beginning Thursday, March 1.
“These gatherings are wonderful opportunities to hear stories about the transformative power of student awards,” said Rob Donelson, Laurier’s vice-president of development and alumni relations. “The donors discover the true impact of their gift on many of our best and brightest students – helping them to focus on their studies, fulfill their potential and take on a life of leadership and purpose.”
The events begin with the Graduate Awards reception, which recognizes the 212 graduate students who received scholarships for the 2011/2012 academic year. The informal morning reception will include congratulatory remarks from Laurier administration and testimonials from several scholarship recipients. The event takes place at 10 a.m. on March 1 in the Senate and Board Chamber on Laurier’s Waterloo campus.
Laurier’s Brantford campus will hold an awards ceremony for donors and student recipients at the Brantford Golf and Country Club, Wednesday, March 7 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Laurier Brantford Dean Bruce Arai will host the ceremony and present 45 student awards.
Finally, more than 250 donors, students and guests will attend the 2012 Awards of Distinction event March 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. These scholarships and awards, each with a minimum value of $5,000, are among the most prestigious honours available to Laurier students. This year, 82 Laurier students will be honoured with Award of Distinction certificates.
The university is grateful to the many generous individuals and corporations with the vision and selflessness to invest in Laurier’s students.
The student award events are by invitation only; however, members of the media are welcome to attend.
