Energy economist John Foster to speak at Laurier

John Foster, an energy economist and expert on the world oil scene, will speak at Wilfrid Laurier University Monday, November 2.
The public lecture, presented by the Department of Sociology and titled “Afghanistan, Central Asia and Pipeline Poltics,” will address how Afghanistan fits into the geopolitical rivalry for control of Central Asia’s energy resources.
Foster is an economics and law graduate from Cambridge University. His published work on this topic includes a report for the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, a Toronto Star op-ed article and a chapter in Afghanistan and Canada: Is there an alternative to war? (Black Rose Books, 2009).
The lecture takes place Monday, November 2, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Bricker Academic Building Rm. 209. Laurier’s Faculty of Arts and the departments of Economics, Global Studies, Political Science, and Geography and Environmental Studies are cosponsoring the event.
