BBA students place in top three at Inter-Collegiate Business Competition

Jan 8/14

Two teams of students in the School of Business and Economics (SBE) both placed third in the categories of Policy and Human Resources at the 2014 Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC) in January.  Laurier's Policy Team included: Alison Greaves, Srin Sridharan, Ulana Zadarko; and on the HR Team: Cameron McWatt, James Phanyasaeng.

ICBC is Canada's longest-running undergraduate business case competition held annually in January at Queen's University with more than 100 competitors from top business schools around the world. The competition features eight events in: Accounting, Business Policy, Ethics, Debating, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, and Management of Information Systems.  Competitors are given one month to analyze a case, which is then adjudicated by faculty in the Queen's School of Business. The top six teams in each category are then invited to compete in a three-day final round of the competition.

"ICBC is a rigorous competition that requires a broad, yet in-depth knowledge base, coupled with determination, excellent communication skills, team work, and passion" said Steve Risavy, assistant professor of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management in SBE and faculty advisor for Laurier's ICBC teams. "We are extremely proud of our students as both teams performed very well and did an excellent job of representing our School."

The students travelled to Queen's in Kingston, Ont., in the New Year, accompanied by faculty advisor, professor Risavy.

In 2013, students won top place in the Marketing category in 2013 and Human Resources category in 2010. In 2008, they placed first in Marketing and Debating. Since its debut in 1979, Laurier students have won 10 first place spots at this competition.
