Laurier’s Manulife Centre for Healthy Living re-launched with discussion on HIV disclosure

Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Oct 11/13| For Immediate Release

WATERLOO – Research into health and well-being has been a priority for many researchers in Wilfrid Laurier University’s Faculty of Social Work. On hiatus for three years, the Manulife Centre for Healthy Living (MCHL) will be re-launched at a public event Oct. 15 at 9:30 a.m. at the Registry Theatre, 122 Frederick St., Kitchener.

The re-launch of the research centre will be marked by a presentation and discussion with David Caron of the University of Michigan: “Sharing HIV: Disclosure and Matters of Community.”

The centre will be re-launched under the leadership of Ginette Lafrenière, associate professor in Laurier’s Faculty of Social Work, who has been appointed director of the centre.

“I am excited that the centre's re-launch under my leadership will feature Dr. David Caron who will be speaking on the issue of HIV Aids and disclosure in community. He is a well-known academic, and we are lucky to have him here at Laurier,” said Lafrenière. “We already have almost 100 people registered for the event, both within and outside the academy, which speaks to my vision of moving the work of the MCHL closer to our community partners."

For more information about the October 15 event at the Registry, contact Sandra Hoy at shoy@wlu.ca or 519-884-0710 ext. 5280.
