Congratulations to recent student award winners !
In the last few days several chemistry and biochemistry students have been recognized for their excellence in presentations. Four honours thesis BSc students won awards at the SOUSCC in Windsor, ON (42nd Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference). One MSc student won a best poster award at the World Water Day Graduate Research Conference at University of Waterloo.

Rebecca Yardley from Dr. Maly's research group won second best oral presentation in the Organic section at SOUSCC. For her talk "Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Liquid Crystalline Dibenzo[a,c]pentacenequinones"
Arthur Situm from Dr. Al-Abadleh's research group won third best oral presentation in the Physical Chemistry section at SOUSCC. For his talk "Binding of Arsenicals to Hematite in the presence of Pre-adsorbed Organics"
Holly Bilton from Dr. Kitaev's lab won third best oral presenation in the Materials Chemistry section at SOUSCC. For her talk "Discovery of New Silver Nanoclusters through the Engineering of a Protective Thiolate Shell"
Jayne Kelso from Dr. Horsman's lab won a poster presentation award for her poster
"Probing the Canadian metamicrobiome for natural product biosynthetic capacity."
Alexandra Carvajal from Dr. Smith's research group won best poster in the Cold Regions Research division of World Water Day Graduate Student Conference. For her talk "Determination of Lanthanide (Eu3+ and Tb3+) Speciation in Fresh Water using Fluorescence Quenching."
